Influence of Family Life Satisfaction on Stress among Korean Adults

Abstract

Objectives : We tried to investigate the prevalence of general stress and the effect of family life satisfaction on general stress among Korean Population.
Methods : We used secondary data of the Korean Social Survey(2010). The survey covers all persons aged 15 over who normally reside in 17,000 stratified sample households during the survey period. Data of this study consists of 33,757 individuals aged 20 and over.
Results : The prevalence of general stress in adult Korean is 88.9% in total, 88.9% in male, 88.8% in female. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the family life satisfaction was significantly effect on general stress after control other confounding variables including age, sex, life satisfaction, morbidity, marital status, perceived health status.
Conclusion : Family life satisfaction or family support were found to be a significant correlates of general stress among Korean adults. Variety of supports to enhance family cohesion and family relation including sociocultural and political policies and programs would be needed to reduce the risk of having suicide ideation among Korea adults.
